Total of 14 390 journeys were made at Jokioinen Museum Railway in 2002. The number is 17 % up from the figures of the previous year. There were 17 days of scheduled passenger traffic. In addition to scheduled traffic charter and work trains were operated. Total of 315 passenger trains and 89 work or goods trains ran during the season.
The number of journeys is the highest in the history of Jokioinen Museum Railway since reopening of the Humppila-Minkiö line in 1994. In that year total of 16 000 journeys were made.
The operating income kept growing in the style of the last years. The charter train sales broke all the previous records. The increasing income is needed to cover the operating costs and loans of the new Minkiö machine shop.
There were six days with special events in the operating season 2002: The opening of the operating season, Humppila Sunday market, Minkiö farmers' market, Train to Continuation War, The day of museum railway, and Minkiö harvest market. The most popular event was the train to Continuation War, with almost 1400 journeys were made. In addition to these events the traditional star light train was very popular. These trains were completely sold out.
The renovation of JR 65 box car has been completed in the Minkiö workshop in December. At the moment there are two bigger projects going on in the machine shop: re-painting and service of the JR 3 passenger coach and renovation of Äänekoski-Suolahden railway Porter steam locomotive. Both projects are expected to be completed during year 2003.
