The TU4 diesel hydraulic locomotive arrived at Jokioinen Museum Railway on Thursday October 29 after being fully rebuilt in Estonia. Testing of locomotive started immediately after the locomotive was crane lifted on rails and continued the following day. The locomotive has already been running to Humppila several times both hauling a train and as a single locomotive.
After two days of tests the four axle locomotive with a 290 horse power Scania engine is really showing its real skin. The trucks of the TU4 locomotive are very well designed and the locomotive is running really well with speeds up to 50 km/h. The locomotive is also quite easy to operate.
The locomotive built in 1970 in ex Soviet Union has been fully overhauled at the ship yard of Baltic Marine Group in Tallinn. Some additions and adjustments will be still added to the locomotive at the Jokioinen Museum Railway. For example a hand brake and a new cab heating system will be built and bearings of one axle will be replaced.

On Thursday 29th of October a new diesel locomotive will arrive at Jokioinen Museum Railway. The locomotive has been bought for the work train usage.
The locomotive is made in the USSR, Udmurtia, Kambark locomotive works in 1970. Hundreds of similar TU4-type diesel locomotives were built in years 1962-74. the locomotive bought by the Museum Railway Association has been in service in Lithuania. The locomotive was completely overhauled in Estonia and has for example a new engine.
The new 18 ton four axle TU4 locomotive will be used mainly on work trains and switching heavier steam locomotives and also as an emergency locomotive for the regular steam train traffic and hauler of special diesel hauled charter trains. The locomotive has total of 260 horse powers and its maximum speed is 50 km/h, so it is well fit for hauling heavy goods trains faster passenger trains.
In the beginning of 2009 the Museum Railway Association got a 10 000 euro grant from the Ministry of transportation and communications to buy and repair the locomotive. The project also required a lot of own funding and volunteer work of the Museum railway Association to be completed.
