In the last weekend of scheduled traffic this summer, Jokioinen Museum Railway celebrates former Hyvinkää-Karkkila railway, which was opened for traffic one hundred years ago. The museum trains of next Sunday are hauled by locomotive number 5 of Hyvinkää-Karkkila railway. Also in the museum train are carriages from Hyvinkää-Karkkila railway.
Hyvinkää-Karkkila railway was operated from 1911 to 1967. When railway was shut down, the operator, Kymi Oy, donated steam locomotive number 5 to railway enthusiasts. The locomotive was then transported to Jokioinen railway and museum train traffic between Forssa and Humppila begun at 1971.

Seventh Minkiö Steam Festival attracted totally 2900 visitors to Jokioinen Museum Railway Minkiö depot area during last weekend of July. Festival presented a wide variety of old agricultural steam engines, museum railway steam locomotives and other vintage machines.

July at Jokioinen Museum Railway will end tradionally with Minkiö Steam Festival. This year the main event of the year will be held on 30.-31. of July. The event will be organized by the Museum railway Association, The Finnish Steam Engine Society and many others. The event will be held at Minkiö station like before.
The festival grounds will be open for public on both days from 11 to 17 (ticket sales will close at 16). On both days there are three steam trains running between Jokioinen and Humppila and a special Porter locomotive hauled festival train on the Minkiö festival grounds From Jokioinen station you can take a ride on top of a tractor trailor to Jokioinen estate and the municipal festival of Jokioinen.
In total there will be in steam more than ten agricultural steam engines and five steam locomotives of Jokioinen Museum Railway. In addition tio this there will be old agricultural and industrial machines running and on display.
The festival ticket costs for adults 15 euros and children (6 - 16 years) 5 euros. Under 6 year eneter for free. The ticket is valid all the day and entitles to free rides onboard trains running on that day.

A barbaque train is a new event at Jokioinen Museum Railway for summer 2011. In addition to normal steam train there is a special barbaque train running between Jokioinen and Humppila. On board that thrain you can enjoy all kinds of barbaqued food and drinks. You can buy the food at Minkiö station and ride the train enjoying your meal!
The train will also have a special car for people having a picknick onboard thet train. The special trains will depart Minkiö at 11.35 for Humppila (return at 12.42), from Minkiö at 12.55 to Jokioinen (return at 13.48) and from Minkiö at 14.05 to Humppila (return at 15.12). Tickets for the Barbaque train cost 12 euros for adults and 6 euros for 6 to 16 years old children. The ticket price includes the first grilled sausage and the tickets are valid all the day!

Jokioinen Museum Railway and Museum Railway Association celebrated their 40th anniversary at first Sunday of June. Major highlights were the release of museum railway anniversary book written by Markku Nummelin and the official opening of museum railway traffic season.
The traditional blue-white-striped band was cut by mrs. Sirkka-Liisa Anttila, the member of parliament and minister of agricultural affairs. Minister Anttila was advised by two chairmen of Museum Railway Association; Mikko Alameri, the first chairman of Association's history and current chairman Marko Laine.

During celebration were three steam trains at service. The celebration train from Jokioinen to Minkiö was same composition as in 1971 when museum trains started traffic between Forssa and Humppila. The train was hauled by steam locomotive number 5 from former Hyvinkää-Karkkila railway. The wagons were 3rd class coach number 4 and freight car G10 also from Hyvinkää-Karkkila railway, conductor wagon number 11 originally from Jokioinen railway and summer carriage made in museum railway early volunteers in body of freight car 283 of former Loviisa-Vesijärvi railway.
The anniversary book includes 192 full-colored pages and nearly two hundred images from first years of museum railway to today. The book is written in Finnish, but it includes also brief summary in English. The book is available in Minkiö station café and our webshop mKauppa.

The operating season 2011 of Jokioinen Museum Railway started on Thursday 12.5. when the first charter train of the year was hauled by ex Jokioinen Railway steam locomotive number 5 "Orion". The train was full of day care children who enjoyed the trip on board a real steam train. Charter trains are pulled by steam locomotives until late September.
Scheduled traffic starts on Sunday 5.6. with the celebration of the start of Finnish preserved train traffic which started at Jokioinen railway 40 years ago.

The volunteers of Jokioinen Museum Railway are preparing the new traffic season by cleaning up station areas and maintaining locomotives. In warm easter weekend two of the steam locomotives were woken up from their winter sleep. Former Loviisa-Vesijärvi Railway number 6 and Jokioinen railway number 4 were warmed up to the full pressure for some test runs.
Minkiö station garden was also made up during easter. The platforms and lawns were cleaned up from the fallen leaves. Also couple of rotten trees were fallen.
During a long weekend also some track maintenance has been made, because a crossing of track and private road in Palomäki was renoved by replacing the cover planks.
The first charter trains will run before mid-May. The scheduled traffic season starts on Sunday June 5 with 40th anniversary celebration of museum railway. The second highling of the season is Minkiö Steam Festival in last weekend of July.

During the early spring, the Museum Railway Association has received a substantial assistance for renovation projects. The operator of Jokioinen Museum Railway has received three decisions of grants which will be 28000 euros in total.
National Board of Antiquities granted in early April an allocation of 11000 euros for reparation of Minkiö station historically valuable buildings. The sum of 7000 euros will be used for roof renovation of railway storage warehouse and 4000 euros for railway station roof and window reparation.
In the second week of April, Ministry of Transport and Communications granted totally 15000 euros for restoration of railway rolling stock. The majority of the amount will be used for Schöma diesel locomotive overhaul. In addition, money will also being spent for restoration of former Hyvinkää-Karkkila railway passenger coach and two freight wagons.
A third party supported the museum railway was the National Railway Museum Foundation, which awarded a grant of 2000 euros for Hyvinkää-Karkkila railway coach renovation.
